Collier corrections officer arrested for making illegal laptop deal with ex-inmate |

A Collier County sheriff's corrections officer is in jail Tuesday after being arrested for dealing in stolen property, conspiracy to commit grand theft and trafficking in an opiate. The Collier County Sheriff's Office released the news of the arrest at 11 p.m. Monday, stating that Sheriff Kevin Rambosk had withdrawn the appointment for former Cpl. James Brooks, 48, after the felony arrest. According to the news release, Brooks had approached a Naples Jail inmate to ask him to get laptop after his release and sell it to the former law enforcement officer at half its retail value. The inmate worked with detectives as a confidential informant. "Through their investigation detectives determined that Brooks had struck a deal with the inmate and was aware that the inmate planned to steal a laptop following his release and sell it to Brooks," the release said.
