Teen becomes sick while in custody, dies in hospital |

A 17-year-old Brookings boy died of an apparent medical condition while at a state-run juvenile corrections program in Custer, the state Department of Corrections said Monday. Brady Folkens developed symptoms at the State Treatment and Rehabilitation (STAR) Academy and was seen by on-site medical staff before being taken Saturday to Custer Regional Hospital. He then was flown to Sioux Falls so that he could be seen by a specialist but died Saturday night at Avera McKennan Hospital. An autopsy will be conducted, and test results are pending on the cause of his illness. He had been at the STAR Academy since October. Read More. |
