It was business as usual for the Logan County Commissioners on Christmas Eve, as they held their regular business meeting.

Prior to this week's meeting, the commissioners held a brief special meeting Friday, Dec. 20, to approve the mill levy certification to the state of Colorado. According to the certification, the total assessed valuation of the county is $1,403,820,810 and total revenue is $20,242,339. Items on the agenda at Tuesday's business meeting included approval of a memorandum of understanding for mutual aid between Logan County and the Colorado Department of Corrections, for the purpose of facilitating emergency response cooperation between their respective agencies.

“This MOU for mutual aid is basically between the Logan County Office of Emergency Management and the Sterling Correctional Facility – Department of Corrections, to use labor and equipment between those two entities,” explained Commissioner Dave Donaldson.

The commissioners also approved an agreement between Logan County and the Colorado Department of Transportation; the United States Department of Transportation, Federal Highway Administration – Colorado Division; and the U.S. Department of the Air Force Warren Air Force Base, Cheyenne, Wyo., for maintenance of defense access roads, extraordinary maintenance and extraordinary snow removal.

According to the agreement, the county will be reimbursed $33,261.54 in 2014, $34,425.69 in 2015, $35,630.59 in 2016, $36,877.66 in 2017 and $38,168.38 in 2018.

Additionally, they approved a resolution directing the allocation of Federal Mineral Leasing Funds received and held by the Logan County Treasurer. The $30,326.51 in funds will be deposited into the county's general fund.

In other business, the commissioners approved 16 agreements between Logan County and Wanzek Construction for the use of the county rights of way for access roads, 10 of which will follow County Road 78, two will follow C.R. 61, two will follow C.R. 76 and two will follow C.R. 59. The roads are for the purpose of allowing access to wind turbines for the Spring Canyon Energy wind energy project.

Work will be completed no later than October 2014.
