Corrections Corporation of America ("CCA") announced yesterday the signing of a new contract with the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency ("ICE") for up to 905 detainees at its Houston Processing Center located in Houston, Texas. In addition, CCA announced its intention to expand the facility by 494 beds from its current 411 beds to 905 beds. The anticipated cost of the expansion is approximately $29 million and is estimated to be completed during the first quarter of 2005. The expansion is being undertaken in order to handle additional detainee populations that are anticipated as a result of this contract, which contains a guarantee that ICE will utilize 679 beds at such time as the expansion is completed. |
