Corrections officer killed in crash on way to work was a 'gentle giant' |

Corrections Officer Raymond McAdams was known as a “gentle giant” at Northern State Prison in Newark. Tall, ebullient and a mentor to younger officers, McAdams worked at the prison for 27 years, commuting from his home in Easton, Pa., where he lived with his wife, Timika and their 9-year-old son, Austin. The 50-year-old Newark native was driving to work on Sunday afternoon when his car was struck from behind on Interstate 78 in Springfield. His vehicle veered across the shoulder and crashed into a snowbank. McAdams died of a head injury, said Sgt. Adam Grossman, a spokesman for the New Jersey State Police.
