| Rice County community corrections hopes to increase efficiency and reduce recidivism for 2014-15 |

With the help of slightly increased revenue, Rice County community corrections set forth an ambitious comprehensive plan for 2014-2015, focusing on increasing departmental efficiency while also reducing crime and recidivism for the upcoming biennium. “As a community corrections department we would be derelict in our duties if we did not make every effort to promote an evidence-based approach to facilitate change in our offenders,” reads the comprehensive plan. Department head Christine Curtis said she and her staff are moving toward a change in philosophy that encourages working with prisoners on development and education so they don’t revert to a life of crime after rehabilitation — also known as recidivism. “As a department, we are not waiting around for a prisoner to do wrong and come back, we’re really working on development and successes during probation,” Curtis said.
