A former officer at the Newton County (Ga.) has been sentenced to five years in prison for taking a bribe to help an inmate's escape attempt. Reginald Dewayne Felder, 32, also got 15 years of probation when he was sentenced last Tuesday in Newton County Superior Court. And once he is released, Felder will never be allowed to work in law enforcement, according to the Newton County District Attorney's Office. Felder was convicted two weeks ago of one count of bribery for accepting $100 from an inmate in return for his help in a planned escape. The warrant alleged Felder discussed the escape plans and gave handcuff keys to the inmate by hiding them in a sandwich. The incident apparently happened in April 2003. The inmate involved in the alleged escape plan was being held on probation violation charges at the time. |
