Brazil authorities to investigate notorious prison facility |

Following complaints of women being raped during visits and the recent posting of a horrendous video of decapitated and tortured inmates, officials in Maranhao state say they will investigate Brazil's infamous Pedrinhas penitentiary. Local authorities announced Wednesday they will scrutinize one of the country's most dangerous prisons, according to the Latin American media site infobae.com. Earlier this month, the United Nation's human rights agency asked for an "immediate, impartial and effective investigation" of Pedrinhas, where 60 inmates were killed in 2013 during bloody battles between rival gangs. A large number of women have complained of being raped by gang members when they went to visit husbands, sons and brothers. Read More. |
