| Inmate denied a transfer, sues prison officials |

GULFPORT, Miss. (AP) - An inmate in Greene County is suing officials at a state prison for $4 million and a transfer to the Stone County Regional Correctional Facility. Eugene Fowler was imprisoned in 2012 for an aggravated assault conviction in Stone County. He is serving a 6½ year prison term at the South Mississippi Correctional Institution near Leakesville. He is suing two officials there. The Sun Herald reports (http://bit.ly/1dB4sOF ) Fowler applied for a transfer to Stone County in June but his request was denied because of an unrelated escape conviction. In his handwritten lawsuit. Fowler said the escape, 25 years ago in 1989, was more than 10 years ago and should not be used to deny his transfer. Read More. |
