| Officials: Inmate attacks worker at Buckeye prison |

An imate attacked a Department of Corrections employee at the Arizona State Prison Complex-Lewis near Buckeye on Friday morning, according to authorities. The inmate struck the employee several times on the head and body about 9:30 a.m., according to corrections spokesman Bill Lamoreaux. Officers in a tower shot non-lethal rounds to stall the prisoner until other officers could restrain him, he said. It was not clear what role the employee served at the prison complex. Lamoreaux said the employee was taken outside for a medical evaluation and that the Morey Unit at the prison was locked down while officers investigate the incident. Read More. |
