Prison escape attempts make good copy, and The Oregonian's report on recent episodes at the Oregon state prison in Ontario prompted spirited online discussion. The story told about back-to-back attempts in 2010 to escape from Snake River Correctional Institution, the state's largest prison. Inmate Michael J. Norwood made a dummy and a ladder out of dental floss in an escape bid that lasted a half hour. A day later, inmate Robert L. Emery spent an entire night thrashing around the prison's maintenance shops, crawling over fences and finally giving up in exhaustion.
