| Escapee from correctional facility found an hour later |

An inmate who walked away from the Winfield Correctional Facility Friday night was apprehended less than an hour later in Oxford, according to a Kansas Department of Corrections spokesperson and the Cowley County Sheriff’s Office weekend activity report. Andrew Dylan Vandorn, 22, was declared escaped at 10:25 p.m. Friday and was apprehended less than an hour later, at 11:10 p.m., in Oxford, according to Jeremy Barclay, a KDOC spokesperson. Barclay said that at the time of the walk away, Vandorn was a minimum security inmate at WCF, meaning that he could leave the facility if the absence were authorized. Vandorn’s leaving the facility Friday was unauthorized, Barclay said. According to the sheriff’s office activity report, deputies were dispatched to an area west of Winfield on U.S. 160 Friday night after Vandorn was reported escaped. Shortly afterward, a couple called the Winfield Police Department and said they had given a suspicious subject a ride to Casey’s General Store in Oxford. Their description of the subject matched that of Vandorn. After receiving permission from the Sumner County Sheriff’s Office, deputies went to the store. An Oxford police officer was already with Vandorn, whose identity was confirmed. Vandorn was taken into custody and taken to the Cowley County Jail and booked in on a KDOC hold. He remains in the Cowley County Jail on no bond, according to the jail roster. Vandorn was sentenced in Crawford County on June 10, 2013, for a violation of the Kansas Offender Registration Act-first conviction, a non drug-grid severity level 6 crime, according to the Kansas Adult Supervised Population Electronic Repository (KASPER).
