Ten inmates died and 48 were injured in a prison fire in the Colombian coastal city of Barranquilla, officials said yesterday. The fire started late on Monday after an inmate mutiny in response to a drug and weapons raid, said Gen. Saul Torres, head of Colombia’s prison service, Inpec. The prisoners started to burn mattresses after guards used tear gas to quell the protest, with the fire spreading throughout the night into the early hours yesterday. Read More. |
