Yakima County corrections supervisors win 4.5% raise |

YAKIMA, Wash. — Yakima County Department of Corrections supervisors will see their pay increase by 4.5 percent through 2015, thanks to a labor contract approved Tuesday by Yakima County commissioners. The contract covers a chief and two lieutenants. The pact not only extends the bargaining agreement through 2015, but also gives a 1.25 percent pay increase this month, another increase for the same amount in July, and an additional 2 percent increase in January 2015. Commissioners Mike Leita and Kevin Bouchey said DOC supervisors agreed to a fair and equitable agreement as the county begins to work its way of out a financial crisis brought on by the recession and the loss of jail bed rental contracts, worth millions. “I would like to thank them all,” Bouchey said. “I applaud the chiefs and lieutenants for bringing this to a conclusion.” Since experiencing declining revenue, with the largest drop at the end of 2010 when the jail contracts were lost, the county has moved to a new pay plan that evaluates possible pay increases annually rather than imposing automatic step increases over a number of years.
