A Thief River Falls, Minn., man was arrested last week in Detroit Lakes for an outstanding felony warrant in Red Lake County. Brian Allen Torkelson, 23, who also was a fugitive wanted by the Minnesota Department of Corrections, was transported to the Tri-County Correctional Facility in Crookston by the Red Lake County Sheriff's Office on Jan. 25. He made his initial court appearance Monday in Red Lake Falls to face felony burglary, property damage and misdemeanor theft charges, Red Lake County Sheriff Mitch Bernstein said in a news release. The charges stem from a December break-in at the American Legion Club in Plummer. Torkelson had been on the run since Dec. 21, Bernstein said. Because of the state Corrections Department hold, Torkelson was not given the opportunity of release from custody, Bernstein said. He will be held at the Crookston jail until his next court appearance in Red Lake Falls in February. Read More. |
