| Scabies outbreak reported at Ventress Correctional Facility |

CLAYTON, AL (WSFA) - Alabama Department of Corrections officials say a scabies outbreak at Ventress Correctional Facility in Clayton has been going on for at least two weeks. The department of corrections says the prison has been under quarantine due to the outbreak. During the quarantine no one is allowed to transfer in or out of the facility. Officials expect to lift the quarantine Feb. 5. There have been 79 cases of scabies reported in the prison. The prison system's office of health services is treating the inmates. Scabies is a contagious skin infection caused by a mite. Department of corrections officials confirmed another unrelated incident at the prison Friday. A corrections officer was reportedly doing searches on inmates leaving lunch and noticed an inmate had contraband in his sleeves. The officer confiscated six packs of coffee and seven packs of tobacco, according to ADOC. Read More. |
