Concern grows around SC prison disparity rate |

FLORENCE COUNTY, SC - Data from the South Carolina Department of Corrections shows a significant racial disparity in its inmate population for 2013. Black inmates made up more than 60 percent of South Carolina's prison population last year but less than 30 percent of the state's general population. Civil rights activists partially blame the racial disparity among inmates in prisons on the so-called war on drugs. Maddie Robinson of the NAACP in Florence claims the program has racial undertones.
