KNOXVILLE (WATE) – Local law enforcement and authorities from the Tennessee Department of Corrections conducted a massive round up of wanted criminals Thursday night.

The mission was called "Operation Rocky Top". There were more than 60 probation and parole violators that they were after.

A few agencies met for a group briefing prior to the sting. They created five teams with members from the US Marshalls Office, Tennessee Department of Corrections, and the Knoxville Police Department working together.

The goal was to catch the wanted criminals off guard, then make an arrest.

The criminals they were after were considered threats to public safety.

"These are drug offenders who have multiple, multiple, offenses and continue to be a problem for probation and parole. Also, these are people who are involved with assaults and that type of thing," explained Robert Reburn with the Tennessee Department of Corrections.
