Discrimination lawsuit filed against RI, Dept. of Corrections |

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — The Justice Department has filed a lawsuit against the state of Rhode Island and The Department of Corrections. The lawsuit alleges the Department of Corrections uses discriminating hiring practices against African-Americans and Hispanic Americans. The suit claims the A.C.I’s testing process is unfair to African Americans and Hispanic Americans. In December, A.C.I Director A.T. Wall informed lawmakers of the Justice Department’s investigation. The Justice Department issued a statement to Eyewitness News that reads in part, “Bringing an end to practices that have an unjustified discriminatory impact on the basis of race or national origin is a major priority of the Department of Justice.” The Department of Corrections has not commented on the lawsuit.
