Largest prison-workers union still hasn't settled employment contract |

The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Council 75 has been working without a contract since July 1. AFSCME, as the union is known, is the largest union in the Oregon Department of Corrections, and the second-largest public sector union in the state. It looks poised to go into binding arbitration this spring. The state’s largest union, Service Employees International Union Local 503, settled its contract last summer after some rocky bargaining and the threat of a strike. But AFSCME can’t make that same threat, or at least Corrections employees can’t. They’re prohibited from striking like all state workers whose jobs involve public safety. Read More. |
