Dirty, overcrowded Pentonville Prison ‘unviable without investment’ |

One of the country’s biggest and most overcrowded jails needs extra cash and manpower to allow it to operate as a 21st century prison, a watchdog warns today. Nick Hardwick, the chief inspector of prisons, said that without the investment, prison officials should consider whether Pentonville jail has a viable future. His warning comes after an inspection found the North London jail was “seriously overcrowded” and held 35 per cent more than its normal population. Read More. |
