Jailed Chelmsford prison chef smuggled cannabis into cells after family death threats

A PRISON chef tried to smuggle cannabis and a mobile phone into cells because inmates threatened to kill his parents, a court heard.

But Gary Norton-Steele, 42, of Waveney Drive, Springfield, Chelmsford, will now spend 18 months behind bars after he was rumbled.

At Chelmsford Crown Court on Thursday, Recorder Peter Digney told the tearful father-of-one he should have told police immediately about the threats.

    I can't believe that he was able to smuggle in cannabis so easily. This means that the cannabis tracking system in prison is flawed, and they need to change the system a bit. I hope they'll improve the system soon.
