Report attacks prison officials over death |

The Sunday World understands that the report of barrister Grainnne McMorrow into the case of 21-year-old Douch, who was killed by Stephen Egan in August 2006, slams staff in Cloverhill and Mountjoy prisons. Minister for Justice Alan Shatter this week received the commission of investigation report and it chronicles a litany of crucial mistakes by staff that allowed Egan, who was mentally ill and said he had “supernatural strength”, murder Douch and sleep on his body overnight without staff realising what had happened. The report, which runs to over 500 pages, will detail how staff in Cloverhill Prison in west Dublin acted improperly by transferring Egan to Mountjoy, despite the fact he was regarded as very dangerous and should have been in isolation.
