Muslim inmate loses court challenge over drugs test |

A Muslim serving life for robbery has failed in a High Court challenge arising out of his refusal to undergo a drugs test in prison during a religious fast. Tony Eguakhide, an inmate at Gartree Prison in Leicestershire, argued it was unreasonable and unlawful to test him during the religious festival of Yaum Ashurah - or other Muslim festivals like Ramadan - without proper consideration being given to a test taking place outside the fasting period. Rejecting Eguakhide's application for judicial review, Mr Justice Bean ruled that to allow his challenge "would be to undermine the random nature of the drug-testing programme". Read More. |
