Shelby Co. DA's program aims to decrease truancy |

Twenty-five percent of juvenile crime happens during school hours, which is another reason Shelby County District Attorney Amy Weirich is working to promote the Truancy Reduction Mentoring Program. Thursday commissioners in Gov. Bill Haslam's Safety Cabinet say DA Weirich's program is a model for other communities. The group visited Chickasaw Middle School to meet with students and mentors about the program, aimed to reduce the number of kids who move from truancy to delinquency. Read More. |
