‘Shoot To Kill’ Proposal At Windham Prison Gone

AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) — A provision that would have allowed guards to use deadly force against prisoners attempting to escape from the Maine Correctional Center in Windham has been stripped from a bill.

The bill was approved Monday by the Legislature’s Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committee after the shoot-to-kill provision was eliminated. The bill makes mostly housekeeping changes to the state prisons department.
