| Memorial held for slain correctional officer |

Community members will gather Tuesday, to honor and remember a Columbia County Correctional Officer who was killed in the line of duty. 24-year-old Sergeant Ruben Thomas was stabbed to death by inmate, Richard Franklin, on March 18, 2012 at the prison in Lake City. Paula Thomas, Ruben’s fiancé, and the rest of Ruben’s family will be there Tuesday morning for the ceremony. Some of Ruben’s co-workers and the Department of Corrections have planned the service and it’s something they’ve told Ruben’s family they’d like to do every year to remember him. Read More. |
