| Death penalty secrecy bill nears passage |

MONTGOMERY -- A bill that would make information about Alabama's death penalty process secret, including the names of manufacturers of the drugs used in lethal injection, could reach a vote in the Alabama Senate as early as this week. Supporters of the bill say the names of death penalty drug makers aren't protected by law now. The Alabama Department of Corrections has so far not complied with a request, made more than two weeks ago by The Anniston Star, for receipts for the drug and records of payment to medical professionals who participated in executions or volunteers who did the same. "Please know that our resources are limited and there are other requests pending ahead of yours," DOC general counsel Anne Hill wrote in a letter to The Star on March 5.
