Jail inmate released after computer mistake

The Kansas Department of Corrections is looking for an inmate who was mistakenly released from the Vernon County Jail last month.

Sean McKenzie, who was being held in Vernon County for theft charges, was released when charges were dropped in late February.

In Kansas, McKenzie was incarcerated for burglary, theft and a 2012 jail escape. The Vernon County Sheriff's Office had custody of McKenzie, who was waiting to serve trial for theft charges in the area.

Sheriff Jason Mosher said the accidental release was caused in part by a computer system. The Sheriff's Office has recently installed a computerized system in an effort to make bookings more efficient.
