| The Department of Correction Announces New Mission Statement |

Commissioner James E. Dzurenda proudly rolled out the Connecticut Department of Correction’s new Mission Statement during a meeting with the agency’s top managers on Friday, March 28 in Cheshire. This collaborative mission statement which includes input from department staff, as well as stake holders from several other state entities involved with the criminal justice system, shall serve as the foundation for all Department policies going forward. The new Connecticut Department of Correction Mission Statement is as follows: The Department of Correction shall strive to be a global leader in progressive correctional practices and partnered re-entry initiatives to support responsive evidence-based practices aligned to law-abiding and accountable behaviors. Safety and security shall be a priority component of this responsibility as it pertains to staff, victims, citizens and offenders. The new mission statement reaffirms the Department of Correction’s commitment to the core principles of safety and security, while honing its re-entry efforts in order to reduce crime by reducing recidivism. Several state agencies assisted in the development of the Department of Correction’s new mission statement including: the Department of Emergency Services & Public Protection, Department of Social Services, Court Support Services Division, Office of the Chief State’s Attorney, Department of Mental Health & Addiction Services, Board of Pardons and Paroles, Office of Policy & Management and the Office of the State Victim Advocate. Commissioner Dzurenda and his entire executive team are grateful to all those who participated in the process. “I am very pleased to be a part of the Connecticut criminal justice system’s renewed commitment to a team approach when it comes to public safety. In the end, the protection of our communities and the citizens of Connecticut is everyone’s responsibility,” Commissioner Dzurenda said. |
