| Man dies while in custody of Decatur Police |

Decatur police said a man at Decatur City Jail died after being found unresponsive in his jail cell. Police said that around 2 a.m. on Sunday, officers responded to Geno's Pub on 6th Avenue in response to a reported fight in the parking lot. Upon arrival, officers said they made contact with a woman lying on the lot and determined she was intoxicated after talking with her and bystanders. Officers said that once the woman got to her feet, she began cursing and swinging fists at those around her. Police said they tried to arrest the woman for public intoxication, but her father, Marty Earl Whisman, who was also intoxicated, tried to intervene and prevent the arrest. Read More. |
