The Mississippi state supreme court has ordered a new trial for death row inmate Michelle Byrom, reversing her 2000 conviction for capital murder and ordering the circuit court to assign a new judge to her case. "We are very grateful that the Mississippi supreme court has granted Michelle Byrom's request for relief from her death sentence," Byrom's attorney, David Calder, told CNN on Monday. In the high court's two-page order, Justice Josiah D Coleman said the original trial judge, Circuit Judge Thomas J Gardner, will not preside over Byrom's re-trial. Read More. |
