ALBANY COUNTY — Investigators believe a man a Troy who died in the Albany County Jail’s special housing facility Wednesday ingested a lethal dose of cocaine he may have smuggled into the facility upon his arrest on a parole violation last month. Sheriff Craig Apple said an autopsy determined Michael Williams, 29, of Corliss Avenue, died of cardiac arrest brought on by ingesting cocaine. Williams appeared to suffer seizure in his cell around 11:15 a.m., and was pronounced dead about 45 minutes later. Apple said authorities received a tip Monday indicating Williams may have a quarter-ounce of cocaine in his cell among the jail’s general population. He speculated Williams likely ingested or kept the drugs in his body cavity before he was taken into custody. Read More. |
