FORT MADISON – The new Iowa State Penitentiary in Fort Madison is almost complete. Although the ribbon cutting ceremony for the Iowa State Penitentiary in Fort Madison was held in November of 2013, the facility is not yet housing inmates. According to Rebecca Bowker, executive officer at the Iowa State Penitentiary, other than a few minor issues, such as last-minute adjustments to heating and air, the facility is almost ready for use. The $130 million project was officially started with a ground-breaking ceremony in April 2010. After just over four years, the project is expected to be complete. Read More. |
