| Justice Dept official says offer to address prison escapes forum turned down |

The regional director of the Department of Justice, John Duck, says he offered to attend a meeting at Dhurringile last night over escapes from a minimum security prison in the town. There were more escapes from the jail in the past financial year than from any other facility in Victoria and locals say there have been several in the past six months. They say up to 400 more prisoners are expected to be added to the jail after an upgrade and recent addition of shipping containers as temporary accommodation. Read More. |
