| County jail accredited for inmate healthcare |

Passaic County jail, for the first time in its history, has received accreditation for the way it provides healthcare to its inmates. After elected to the office of sheriff three years ago, Richard Berdnik and his team identified the jail as one of the priorities, said Sheriff Department spokesman William Maer. He said Berdnik hired the private company, Corizon, to operate the jail's medical department and in the three years since the transition, operating costs have been reduced, and services have been improved and streamlined, Maer said. Through a press release, Berdnik said "this is the first time the Passaic County Jail was accredited in the history of its existence." According to the Sheriff's Department, the county's Paterson facility is one of the 500 to be accredited out of the 3,365 jails in the country. Read More. |
