NEWTON — Sheriff Michael F. Strada awarded several members of the Sussex County Sheriff’s Office Bureau of Corrections for their service. Corrections Officer William Martin was presented with the Sheriff’s Meritorious Service Award for assisting victims of a motor vehicle accident, including his own father, that he witnessed off-duty. The accident occurred on Jan. 8, 2013, when Martin’s father, William Martin Sr., who is an EMT with the Stillwater Emergency Rescue Squad, had a heart attack while driving a severely burned patient in an ambulance.
