Jury finds McVay eligible for the death penalty

A jury has decided that James McVay is eligible for a death sentence.

Seven men and five women made the decision Wednesday afternoon after deliberating for less than an hour. The verdict is the first half of the 43-year-old inmate's sentencing trial.

The initial verdict in the two-phase sentencing trial means jurors agreed that the killing of Maybelle Schein in her bed on July 2, 2011 amounted to a crime that was both outrageously wanton, vile and horrible and one committed to obtain something of value.
