GULFPORT -- A tent under which a couple celebrated their wedding at the Great Southern Golf Course has prompted investigations on the use of inmate labor for a private event. The 40-by-40-foot tent was set up by state inmate workers Thursday so a couple could dance overlooking the Gulf of Mexico after their weekend wedding at the golf course. Inmates are allowed to provide free labor for city, county or state agencies and charitable groups, but not for private events. The state Department of Corrections is investigating the incident involving a work crew from its Harrison County Community Work Center on 8th Avenue. Read More. |
