A former New York corrections officer admitted in Dutchess County Court on Nov. 3 she had sex with an inmate while she worked at Fishkill Correctional Facility.
Mona Parris, 32, of Queens, entered a guilty plea to third-degree rape, a felony, in proceedings before Judge Gerald V. Hayes.
Parris told the judge she had sexual intercourse with an inmate at least once between Dec. 1, 2003, and Jan. 31, 2004. She resigned as a corrections officer in June of this year, according to Linda Foglia, spokeswoman for the state Department of Correctional Services.
The incident is considered a rape because corrections officers hold a position of authority over inmates.
In exchange for her guilty plea, Parris was promised a sentence of no more than six months in jail and five years on probation. She is due to return to court for sentencing Dec. 22.
