An officer at the Beaufort County (S.C.) jail has been accused of having sex with the same inmate she was charged with smuggling drugs to last month. Kelly Johnston, 28, was charged Monday with sexual misconduct with an inmate. She was fired on Oct. 26 when authorities charged her with sneaking a prescription drugs to inmate Samantha Morgan-Major, who is awaiting trial on a murder charge. Morgan-Major reported the relationship to police after Johnston stopped providing her drugs and threatened to quit her job, police said. Although the relationship between the two women was consensual, South Carolina law forbids jail employees from having sex with inmates. Morgan-Major is charged with murder, kidnapping and robbery in the May 2 death of Brett Kinney. Police say she helped another man kill Kinney to get his bank card and pain pills. Jail officials say Morgan-Major has been transferred to a state prison to await trial because she threatened another guard's life and was constantly screaming and yelling at jail employees. |
