Texas tonight is set to execute Robert Campbell for the nauseatingly brutal murder of a 20 year old bank teller in 1991, becoming the first state to put a killer to death since Oklahoma bungled the process last week, 1200 WOAI news reports. But several efforts are underway to block the execution. The main one is an appeal to the Circuit Court of Appeals asking for a stay of execution, which was blocked by a federal judge in Houston last week. Maurie Levin, a U.T. Austin law professor who is representing Campbell's last minute appeals, says Texas should not be allowed to keep the source of the drugs it uses to execute convicts secret, especially following the botched execution of a killer in Oklahoma.
