| Man goes AWOL from jail while out on temporary school release |

RACINE — A 43-year-old inmate of the Racine County Jail was back in court Tuesday and charged with escape after he allegedly did not return to jail while allowed outside temporarily. The man, Edmund L. Evans of Racine, was out of jail May 1 to go to school on a release program, but was deemed absent-without-leave four hours after he was due back, according to his criminal complaint. Investigating where he was, a corrections officer reportedly called Evans’ cellphone, which was answered by a man who sounded like Evans but told the officer that Evans was not around. Read More. |
