Loss of a large number of Oklahoma Department of Corrections prisoners has hit area county jails below the fiscal belt. LeFlore County Commission and Public Detention Center Trust Chairman Lance Smith said LeFlore County officials in various departments are seeking a solution to the $30,000 a month in revenue that jail lost when DOC pulled out 33 prisoners who were being held by the county pending a bed opening at a state prison. Smith said the county will always have some of the already-sentenced DOC prisoners, but as of April, as soon as an inmate is sentenced, the DOC will begin pulling them to a state facility. As of Thursday, Smith said, the LeFlore jail has 26 DOC inmates subject to transfer. Read More. |
