Mont Vernon killer Steven Spader injured in N.J. prison altercation

A New Hampshire man serving multiple life sentences for the brutal 2009 slaying of a Mont Vernon woman and the attempted murder of her daughter was injured in a May 15 altercation at the New Jersey State Prison in Trenton, according to New Hampshire corrections officials.

Steven Spader, who was transferred in February to the maximum security facility in New Jersey from the New Hampshire State Prison, did not suffer life-threatening injuries, according to Jeffrey Lyons, spokesman for the state Department of Corrections.

“I can confirm that we received information that Mr. Spader was injured in an altercation,” Lyons said. He referred further questions to New Jersey authorities, who are investigating the incident.
