Officials say a central Iowa inmate has escaped from a work-release facility. The state Department of Corrections says Jessie Hickman Smith, 24, was placed on escape status Monday after failing to return to the Fort Des Moines Work Release Facility from employment. Smith began a 10-year sentence for second-degree robbery in 2007 and was transferred to work release in March. Read More. |
