| Senator McCreadie pushes for construction of a new prison |

If the government wants to avert "the dark cloud of receivership," it needs to act soon to construct a new prison, according to Sen. Brant McCreadie, who has been pushing government officials for a new facility. McCreadie, R-Agana Heights, last week wrote to the governor, asking him to get construction under way after discovering existing legislation that already allowed the government of Guam to enter into lease agreements to design, finance and construct a new facility. McCreadie referenced an ongoing settlement agreement between GovGuam and the federal government related to a civil rights dispute from the 1990s over prisoners' access to health care. Read More. |
