SHIRLEY -- Six staff members and a prisoner at the Souza-Baranowski Correctional Center in Shirley were taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries Wednesday afternoon after an inmate barricaded himself in a room with a staff member. Darren Duarte, a spokesman for the Department of Correction, said in an email that a Department of Corrections Emergency Response Team was activated and "resolved the incident using less-than-lethal and chemical responses to end the incident."
