Oregon prisoners seldom serve their maximum sentences

Oregon releases fewer prisoners who serve their maximum sentences than any other state.

That's a good thing, according to a new study by The Pew Charitable Trusts.

The Oregon Department of Corrections released just 22 inmates in 2012 after they served every day of the sentences imposed on them in court, the study shows.

"These inmates do not have any legal conditions imposed on them, are not monitored by parole or probation officers, and do not receive the assistance than can help them lead crime-free lives," according to the study.
