Florida prisons lead nation in releasing unsupervised inmates

TALLAHASSEE -- Florida leads the nation in the number of inmates who are released from prison with no supervision or support, a new study concludes. The Pew Charitable Trusts conducted a state-by-state analysis of so-called “max-outs,” or inmates who serve their full sentences and are released to the community with no monitoring programs in place.

A large number of those inmates commit new crimes, resulting in more victims, and are sent back to prison at enormous costs to taxpayers. “Get ready for a whole lot more of this,” said Allison DeFoor, vice chairwoman of the LeRoy Collins Institute and an advocate for greater scrutiny of how states run their prison systems. DeFoor said that for too long, the criminal-justice system has evaded the kind of results-oriented accountability that education and healthcare must now provide.

I think this article is spot on! I have the proof too! My son is one of Florida's victims. He was released unsupervised and now he is back in prison there. Mark has a severe problem with cocaine and Florida is no place for him to live. We wanted him to come to our home here in Texas; Florida said that he had to stay there for 45 days to get approval. In the mean time with him out on the streets they knew what would happen. I personally think it is a racket and the State of Florida is the pimp. I am getting a lawyer here in Texas that can fight this problem because my son is 45 years old and we are in our sixties. By the time he gets out this time I will be 76 years old. This is totally unfair to him and to his family. Anyone with a drug problem needs support and Florida consistently lets him out to commit more crimes and I believe with all my heart it is on purpose. These prisons make money - the prison business is a racket down there. Florida is the most drug ridden state in this country and they are taking advantage of that fact! There is no way someone should be let out of prison with no counseling, no drug treatment of any kind, and no help re-entering the world. All they do is house these prisoners until their time is up and then throw them out on the street ALONE!
